Summary Skills: What does texts, people, etc. say?
Faculty Agreements: Readings for units are multi-genre (poetry, short story, articles, essays, speeches) and multimedia (visuals, graphs/chart, short videos (e.g.TED Talks), extended videos). These writing standards are the major tasks for students. Teachers should have students do more frequent writing in all genres (e.g. journal writing & quickwrites, “Write Likes”/mimicking writing). Students are also completing both “on-demand” and multi-draft.
Writing grades 11 & 12:
Note: The Expository section provides a summary of each Standard; where the Standard is repeated, the summary is not; where the Standard is specific to that type of writing, the Standard is summarized. Although these standards are specific to grades 11 & 12, they are generally applicable to grades 9 & 10 for the same writing types; some standards may need to be added or deleted according to grade level.
